64 years on the throne, Onigede receives Award of Honour

 

History was made on 25^th of July, 2023 at the Bowen University as the Nigerian Baptist Convention recognized and honoured the longest serving monarch in Nigeria. His Royal Majesty, Oba James Adelusi Aladesuru II (JP), Onigede of Igede Ekiti.

The Onigede of Igede-Ekiti received the prestigious Longest Serving Monarch in Nigeria Award (2023) having spent 64 years on the throne who was crowned on the 26^th of June, 1959 as the Monarch of the town.

The paramount ruler of the ancient town of Igede-Ekiti, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government of Ekiti State was honoured and appreciated for his contribution to the development of Igede-Ekiti and for being the longest serving monarch on the throne without blemish.

Oba Adelusi who ascended the throne of fore-fathers at age of 26 said to have demonstrated epitome of godliness in directing the affairs of his kingdom in the last 64 years on the throne.

The monarch’s years of reign witnessed series of tremendous, remarkable and viable progress with notable achievements to various facets of life in the area of education, healthcare, sanitation, politics, commerce, infrastructure and socio-cultural life.

The Onigede of Igede-Ekiti was accompanied to the venue of the program by others eminent traditional rulers across the states in Southwest of Nigeria and other chieftaincy holders from within and outside Ekiti State all fully dressed in their traditional ceremonial regalia to Oba Adelusi.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Bowen University Iwo, Professor Joshua Ogunwole said there are only few erudite and well-respected monarch in Nigeria who do not compromise their throne adding that Onigede happens to be the longest serving monarch is a pride to entire Southwest and Nigeria as a whole.

Professor Ogunwole who described the royal fathers as custodian of culture and traditions urged the Federal Government to engage traditional rulers in order to strengthens security architecture of the country. 

National Civil Leadership Summit task Tinubu on Roadmap to Fight Corruption

 

The participants at the 2023 National Civil Leadership Summit have called on Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to quickly come up with roadmap strategy to fight corruption in the country.

 

The summit organized by the Nigerian Baptist Convention described ravaging corruption in the country as pandemic and socio-political cancer that requires urgent actionable approach to tackle it.

 

This was disclosed by the participants of the 2023 edition of the summit held at Bowen University, Iwo. Osun State.

 

The participants drawn from traditional, political, religious and academic institutions across the geopolitical zones in Nigeria, expressed worries over the silence of the present government on how this administration is ready to fight corruption in the country.

 

Speaking at the event, the immediate past President, Christian Association of Nigeria and Nigeria Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Olasupo Ayokunle said there is need to embrace right attitude to public service and shun greed and wrong mindset which leads to corruption in the society. He noted that poverty and waywardness are not the same thing.

The retired clergyman maintained that Nigerian system does not take punishment for the corrupt politicians seriously due to apathy hence reason anti-graft agencies could not perform up to expectation.

Ayokunle maintained that only God-fearing politicians can fight corruption successfully.

 

In his remarks, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the Bowen University, Professor Joshua Ogunwole called for improved church participation and involvement in building a safe nation.

 

The university don further urged religious organization in the country to partner with Civil Societies Organizations in raising voices against bad policies of the government.

 

He assured that Bowen University will continue to ensure graduates of the institution are trained to make impact and contribute their quota to the national development.

 

He commended the role of CSO's against planned palatives of 8,000 to 12 million families living below poverty.

 

Professor Ogunwole urged the organizer of the program to ensure the out-come other summit get to hand of the government for action.

 

The National Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria who represented the CAN President, Prof. Samson Fatokun described corruption as sociopolitical cancer and called for holistic scrutiny of political office holders saddles with responsibility of managing the affairs of the nation.

He stated that most of the Nigerian Legislators have corruption cases hanging in their neck asked how would they make thorough and actionable legislation against corruption.

 

He said if our public officers are not free from corruption, they cannot fight it genuinely.

 

The National Chairman, Baptist Royal King's Forum and the Onpetu of Ijeru HRM Oba Oladapo Oyediran said corruption is simply means forcefully taken of what belong to the masses.

 

The monarch called for nations institution reform adding that if the government institutions are strong, nobody would use political means to shortchange what belong to the masses.

The summit uses the occasion to recognize the contributions of the immediate past President, Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso. Rev. Prof. Emiola Nihinlola, outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Bowen University, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole and His Majesty, Oba James Adelusi Aladessuru II, Onigede of Igede Ekiti to the development of their institutions and society at large.

Breaking: Free Emefiele or charge him, court orders DSS

Following the continuous detention of the former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, A federal capital territory high court has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to charge the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to court if they have criminal allegations against him.

Justice Hamza Muazu on Thursday said the former CBN governor should be released on bail if he is not taken to a competent court within one week.

It would be recalled that on n June 9, President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele and asked him to transfer his responsibilities to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, deputy governor, operations directorate.

NBTS Leadership: Nihinlola handover to Ayankeye as 6th Indigenous Seminary President

Following the successful completion of ten years tenure in office as the President, Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso. Rev. Prof. Emiola Nihinlola on Friday handed over the baton of the leadership to Rev. Prof. Stephen Oladele Ayankeye.

Nihinlola the Professor of Christian Theology assumed duty as the fifth indigenous President of the first degree awarding institution in Nigeria since July 1, 2013 and unbacked on series of developmental projects and institutional renewal to complement gains of the past leaders of the Seminary.

The event which took place at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso had in attendance Baptist denominational leaders, Nigerian Baptist Convention executive members, serving and retired Pastors, Faculty members and staff, along with Seminary students and Alumni representatives.

It would be recalled that the apex body of the Nigerian Baptist Convention the owner of the Seminary during 2023 Annual Convention in Session approved the appointment Prof Ayankeye to succeed Prof. Nihinlola.

The transition program which started with Service of Tributes on Thursday witnessed series of commendation for relentless efforts of Nihinlola to transform the Seminary.

Nihinlola who was full of appreciation to God Almighty for the successful completion of his tenure adding that 'God has blessed my effort and answered my prayers upon the Seminary'.

In his first speech as the Seminary President, Prof. Ayankeye pledged to uphold the institution's core value and maintain its relevance of the Seminary among international theological institutions. He assured not to let down the vision of the Seminary founding fathers.

Professor Ayankeye is the 6th indigenous president of the Seminary.

Beaded Crown: Face business of governance, Ladoja tells Makinde

 

The former Governor of Oyo State and the Otun Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has described  beaded-crown  for high chiefs in Oyo State has strange activities against traditional institution in Yoruba land.

He dissociate himself from upcoming beaded-crowning ceremony to be organized by the state government on Friday July 7th, 2023. 

Ladoja, made this disclosure during an interview with journalists in his Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan house shortly after observing Eid at the University of Ibadan Muslims praying ground.

Senator Ladoja specifically told the newsmen that he wants to be the Olubadan and not an elevated Oba.

According to him, “You don’t fix what is not broken.”, he urged the state government to face business of governance at this critical period instead of waking lifeless issues.

Human Dignity: Ibadan court remands skit maker in prison

 

An Ibadan Magistrate Court situated at Iyaganku on Monday ordered the remand of skit maker, Abdullahi Maruff Adisa, popularly known as Trinity Guy, in prison over allegation of sexualising minor in his viral skit video by Magistrate P O Adetuyibi.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian Police, through Force Public Relation Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, called for the arrest of Trinityguy following a viral video of his dangerous pranks.

Appearing before the Magistrate, Dare Adebayo, counsel to the defendant who was brought before the magistrate by the Police, urged the court to grant his client bail.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Kemi Arowosaye, had earlier told the court that the three defendants conspired together to sexually abuse the girl. According to Arowosaye, “Trinity Guy, on Dec. 17, 2022, sexually abused and exploited the girl at Kuola area of Ibadan.

“Abdullahi was asking the victim the colour of his penis, recording the scene and posting it on social media,” she said.

The prosecutor stated that the offences are contrary to Section 35 (1) and punishable under Section 35 (2) of Oyo State Child Right’s Law, 2006.

Arowosaye said that the offences also contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
